Head-on collision took life of Cornwall cyclist (11/11/12)

John Phillips, 50, was out cycling with two friends on Sunday, November 11, 2012 when he was in collision with a vehicle, which was towing a trailer on an unclassified road just outside St Mabyn.

Mr Phillips, from Delabole, died at the scene from multiple bone fractures and a brain haemorrhage.

Driver who broke speed limit and crashed into cyclist avoids prosecution (21/10/2012)

A driver who drove at 40mph in a 30 mph zone has avoided criminal action despite being involved in the death of 23-year-old cyclist Brent Jelley in Sible Hedingham, Essex in October 2012.

CTC's view: 

If ever there was a case that demonstrated the need for the CPS to be more transparent about their decision making processes, this is it. We would expect the victim’s culpability to have an impact on sentencing but not on the CPS’s decision whether to prosecute the driver or not, hence the decision not to prosecute needs to be explained.

Cyclist left paraplegic after hit and run calls for safer roads (March 2008)

Cyclist Graham Andrews was left wheelchair-bound after being rear-ended by a hit-and-run driver in Rustington, West Sussex in March 2008, reports the Littlehampton Gazette.

Woman cyclist killed by lorry in London on day mayor announces lorry safety plan (04/09/13)

A woman cyclist died on Wednesday September 4th after a collision with a lorry as moves were announced to require all HGVs to be fitted with safety devices to cut the death toll on London’s roads.

Inquest concludes driver couldn't have avoided 22-year-old pedestrian (10/11/2012)

An inquest yesterday into the tragic death of Oliver Pritchard, known to friends and family as Ollie, confirmed he was killed during an accident on the A505 dual carriageway at Slip End, between Ashwell and Royston.

Elderly woman seriously injured in accident with cyclist (01/04/13)

An elderly woman suffered a broken hip when she was hit by a bicycle as she was walking along a newly opened cycle path in North Yorkshire.

Kieren Pratchett, 18, was knocked off his bike by the driver of a BT lorry in Ipswich Road at around 8am on Thursday March 21st.

Police were called to the incident at around 9.20am outside Tesco Express in High Street, Ongar.
