7 year old boy killed after being hit by 16 year old driving BMW

A 16-year-old boy, thought to have been driving the car, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident happened in the Shirenewton caravan site to the east of Cardiff at around 3pm on Saturday.

South Wales Police says it is investigating the incident.

A spokesman said: “A seven-year-old boy from the caravan site was apparently in collision with a red BMW 3 series estate.

“The boy was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where he later died from his injuries. Specially trained police officers are supporting the family.”

The force said it believed a group of children and young people may have witnessed the collision and urged them and their parents to make contact, adding: “They might have important information to assist the investigation and would also be offered any support they might need.”

“Anybody who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
