Fatal smash biker re-bailed

A MOTORCYCLIST arrested after the death of his pregnant wife and unborn son in a crash has been bailed again as police inquiries continue.

David Reay, of Lambton Terrace, Stanley, County Durham, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after an incident near Bowburn on Thursday, November 1.

The 51-year-old lost control of his Aprillia 1,000cc bike while overtaking a tanker on the A688 and hit a traffic island, before colliding with a van.

His wife Alison, 39, who was seven months pregnant and riding pillion on the bike, was killed along with her unborn son, Thomas.

Mr Reay has answered bail and been bailed again to mid-April.

The tanker driver, a 59-year-old man from Bishop Auckland, who was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, has also been re-bailed.
